Chesapeake Bay Skipjacks

What a magnificent sight to see six skipjacks in one location on the Choptank River in September of 2013 at the Skipjack Races! Unfortunately, one of the boats, the Ida May (built in 1911) capsized in a strong gust of wind. Seventeen passengers were tossed into the choppy water, but all emerged in good condition. The second half of this gallery is devoted to the Deal Island Skipjack Races of Labor Day Weekend in 2017. The skies were very blue that day (with choppy seas), thus it is easy to tell when the images of the 2013 race end and the 2017 race images begin.
